Maid Marian is a character in the 1973 animated Disney film Robin Hood based on the legendary tales. She was played by Monica Evans.

About Marian[edit | edit source]

Marian is King Richard's niece. She is a fox who lives in the castle with her lady-in-waiting, Lady Kluck.

She and Robin Hood were childhood sweethearts. Several years ago, she moved to London and they lost touch.

She loves children and is happy to meet Skippy when he sneaks into the castle to retrieve his arrow. She eagerly plays the damsel-in-distress as Skippy plays Robin Hood and fights with Lady Kluck playing Prince John to save her, and then takes her into a grove of bushes and trees that represents Sherwood Forest.

She is soon reunited with Robin at the archery tournament. She immediately recognizes the disguised Robin and cheers him on throughout the tournament. When Robin's identity is revealed and he is sentenced to death, she pleads with Prince John to show mercy and admits she loves him. The prince sics his posse on her and she runs until Robin rescues her. He proposes to her on the run, and she accepts. She likes his ideas of going to London, Normandy, and "Sunny" Spain for a honeymoon, but politely objects to his idea of having six children, as she wants at least a dozen. She foils Trigger's attempt to sneak attack Robin from behind by throwing a pie in his face.

They escape to his hideout in Sherwood Forest, then take a midnight stroll. They finally marry and leave for their honeymoon.
